Is the book Brother Astronomer? I've a copy of it - a very interesting mixture of autobiography, philosophy and contemplation with a massive sprinkling of astronomy. John F has read it too, and also enjoyed it. Remind me to give you a loan of my newly inscribed copy Dave!

hi all,
Guy put up a page from Weekly World News during his talk ("Why Does the Pope have an Astronomer?") in Gonzaga last week. The headline screamed "Catholic Church Training Priests to be Astronauts" and the article went on to claim that 24 priests were preparing to fly to Mars to baptise the Martians! It even had a photo of two spacemen -- actually, two Russian cosmonauts from a mission in the 1970s. Sheesh . . .

Guy Consolmagno was on Radio 4's "Sunday" programme this morning, talking
about the possibility of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe and the
theological consequences.
The programme can be heard for the next week from the BBC's web site:

Interesting that Guy Consolmagno SJ is sharing his interests in extraterrestrial intelligence on both the recent publication and radio.
I wonder if he has been in touch with another Vatican priest Monsignor Balducci who recently came to prominence by receiving an award at the
X Conference 2005 ie. Exo politics in the USA. This conference is a platform for to get the media and politicians to disclose the 'evidence' of UFOs and ET presence.
Monsignor Balducci received the award for courage in ET disclosure at the X-conference April 23,2005. Steven Barrett awarded him for being outspoken and courageous for his public disclosure concerning the importance of witness testimony of the thousands of UFO sightings and his sustaining that God also may have created other civilizations. Monsignor Balducci sustains that the word Universe is mentioned 66 times in Bible and that the phrase Christ, King of the universe has an implicit reference to other planets , galaxies and their possible inhabitants. Monsignor Balducci was applauded by the almost 400 participants of the X-Conference at a gala dinner that Saturday night.
We may have some interesting times ahead with the Vatican.
