Hi Guys,
I have a question regarding USB cables. I bought the ToUCam and now want to use it for some imaging. The problem is though that I don't have a laptop and instead have to connect it to my PC, which of course I am not going to drag out into my back garden. My question is, is it possible. I know I could buy a 5m usb extension cable but it is not really long enough, so can I string 2 or 3 of these together, or would they have to be powered as opposed to the unpowered USB cables (brain is fried at the minute so can't even think of the correct terminology). If I need specialised equipment, how much would it be and where would be the best place to buy it.
Cheers
Dace

Hi Dace,
No use to you now but wireless USB is on it's way:

These guys are selling 16ft cables for $20 and are saying you can connect them together for up to 80 feet.
Cheers,
Keith

I thought myself that the issue with USB cable lengh was the degradation of the signal the longer you go - like ethernet! Dace, I'd say if you are able to get a very long cable, it will be expensive - mostly due to the insulation within the sheath to protect the signal from electromagnetic interference (light sources, (underground) power cables, radio etc etc).
Just something to think about when you have found your cable , which, don't forget, would have been designed for straight forward desktop and such uses.
Seanie.
