In my humble opinion, I got better shots through the Skylux than the ETX70 - which is surprising given the Skylux has twice the focal length (and hence needs twice the exposure duration). The Skylux must have slightly better optics or perhaps the longer focal length has other advantages (less aberration perhaps? - I'm not an optics guru I'm afraid).

Hope you get the time soon to enjoy the new 'scope.

P.S. The Lidl ads only mentioned two eyepieces, there are in fact three: 20mm, 12mm and a 4mm.

You can throw away the 4mm! Or use it as a light paper weight, so the Lidl description is not far off!

You're bang on the money Dave.
just like with mirrors, a longer focal length lens is easier and cheaper to make, AND you will always get less chromatic abberations in a longer focal length achromat refractor, thats why back in the 19th centuary, they used crazy long focal lengths.

Going on memory and not a side by side comparison, the skylux is giving me slightly better images then with the ETX70, this is up for review as soon as I get another clear view of the moon.

I've always found my skylux to be OK, though, if you're new to astronomy, and like what you see with the scope, it would be worth replacing the eyepieces. They really let it down i'm afraid...
