I would not buy the Sony DXC-107A from Ebay. This camera is not suitable for aurorae. The sensor has a 4.5 lux with an f/1.2 lens. This is a very low sensitivity. Part of the reason is because it is colour. Colour reduces its sensitivity by about 3 times as compared to B&W. You need B&W for astronomy, it has a much higher sensitivity.
Check out the prices for the Watec 902 H and the Watec 120 N. Both these cameras have huge sensitivity as compared to the above. These two would be excellent for aurorae
Also check Anascortes Telescope Exchange. They may have Astrovid 2000 or 1000 cameras. These cameras should come down in price as they have been around for the last 7 years, particularly secondhand versions. They also would be excellent for aurorae.

I cant find the watec 902H anywhere for sale. I also tried that site with no luck.
I also seen on a site that the watec 120 was better in low light

Just seen this. Not 2 bad a price, is this the camera to go for
www.modernastronomy.com/cameras.html
Seen this site and there seems to be sooo much noise in those images
www.hwy.com.au/~sjquirk/meteors/meteors.html
How can i record my data from that night? Does the camera take video footage then split it into frames or does it just take many single images

Conor,
The modernastronomy website has those cameras. You can select the one for your specific application ie. aurorae. There is a good description of each cameras capabilities.

Out of curiosity, how would the aforementioed camers compare to the Stellacam and Mallincam?
