Moon & Mars very close tonight was created by Keith g
Just Remember, The moon (70% sunlit) and Mars (magnitude -0.4) will be very close tonight at 8pm high in the south.
Should be a lovely sight!

Is there any way that I'd be able to see it and identify it, without a telescope, and probably without binoculars, and without a compass (so I don't know where the south is ) ?
hope so

I had a look a while ago and they are certainly very close.
It would make a nice pic, any takers?

Jesus, that's an amazing picture!
I went out before I saw that picture and had a look, and saw a star around that position in relation to the moon. I thought I saw a red tint, but it seemed to change (ie. I'd see it red, then I'd see it white). I got some binoculars that I got in a market in Spain, and could see it a bit better (but blurrier) -- and it didn't look red My dad had a look and he thought it was red.
So it could well have been Mars, but I can't really tell
It didn't seem as small to scale as in that picture, though. It was the same size as the other stars I could see -- I dunno what that means!
Either way, my first astronomical encounter
