Does your focuser have any sort of set screws or compression ring to hold eyepieces in?

Conor - that's just weird... :
THe small extra ring you got - does it have a thumb-screw in the side? If so, this is probably a parfocal ring and not anything to do with fitting the LPI into the focuser.

Perhaps you're missing some sort of shroud that goes around the LPI nosepiece??
Can you give us a picture of the LPI nosepiece?
