I dunno about anyone else here but I LOVE si-fi.
(Without going too deep into the whole Si-fi / Si-fact 'thing'
I'm taking for granted that we all see the benifit of flexing
our imagination muscle)

So onto the important stuff....

4, The Deep .... ( Directors cut is far better)
5, Tron ....( I liked all the computer graphics)

TV
1, Star Trek TNG ..(Most successfull TV wotsit ever?!)
2, Quantum Leap / Sliders .. ( Multipal universe theorists rejoyce)

The weather must be bad... :D

I'm not a big TV fan but heres a list of movies and a couple of shows:

Movies
1. Dark Star (the guy playing the bottle pianio and the frozen commander)
2. Dune (amazing sets and costumes)
3. The Fifth Element (Gautier's influence was superb)
4. Contact (well thought out and not cheesy)
5. Vanilla Sky (what a twist)

T.V
1. Dr. Who (watched this as a kid - John Pertwee etc - scared me to death)
2. Star Trek (original series - as above and great its back on the Sci Fi Channel)
3. The Sky at Night (shame its on so late)

God but that brings back memories.

Hard to pick just 5 films. First 3 are easy though.

Movies

1/ Blade Runner - great story, amazing atmosphere, fantastic effects.

2/ Dune - such a fantastically original book and movie. Amazing sets and costumes.

3/ 2001 - Just blew my mind. Still don't have a clue about half of it. 2010 was great too.

4/ Empire Strikes Back - Don't need to say much about his. I remember queueing for ages at the Town Hall to get in. Remember the secrecy about the twist in it?

5/ Alien - the original one. Saw this when I was 6 in the Quays pub before it hit the cinemas. Scared the living daylights out of me!!!!

Ones that nearly made 5 were Soylent Green, Logan's Run and Dark City.

Like Dave I'm not really into TV but these were my favourites.
TV

1/ Blake's 7

2/ Original Battlestar Galactica (pure action, corny acting + you get to see the same battle every week.)

3/ V (yikes, I admit it. The acting and effects were laughably awful)

4/ Sapphire and Steel (very very odd stuff)

5/ The Original Outer Limits

Good thing you didn't say books. Would have to write about 10 pages!

bad weather indeed out there....

Top 5 film:

1. E.T. and Close encounters of the third kind - I know it is 2 films but I cant decide, I loved these films as a kid and I still will sit down and watch them on a rainy Saturday.

2. Event Horizon - scared the living daylight out of me at moments

3. Invasion of the bodysnatchers ( the 80's version) - the end really got me uneasy

4. The abyss - I dont know why... like the ending

5. Contact- would be so cool if it was for real

TV... difficult ...dont watch much TV..

1. Futurama - OK its a cartoon but its hilarious

2. Star Trek: the next generation - was sort of a teenage addiction

3. Sliders : specially the first 10 minutes when you find out the world they land in

4. The Last Train - I guess it counts as it was set in the future and it did play on the Sci-Fi channel

5. the X - files - specially the first 3 series with all the creepy and gory episodes

Wow what a tough decision; so i picked 6!!

Films;

1 - 2001 and 2010 (I just love the whole concept)
2 - Empire strikes back
3 - Alien
4 - Star Trek IV The voyage home, funniest sci-fi ever
5 - Close Encounters
6 - Stargate

TV.

1 - Star Trek Voyager (yeah yeah I know everyone else hated it)
2 - V (Remember that One about the cute looking lizards)
3 - Sapphire and Steel (I used to have nightmares about those ghostly ww2 era train stations for ages afterwards)
4 - Blakes Seven - (Pity it got 'fudged')
5 - Space 1999 (God I'm showing my age now!)
6 - Red Dwarf

Funnily enough, I never really 'got' Doctor Who.

All of the above and more :)

Essentially, if it's SciFi I'm interested.
