Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

A difficult choice, here goes.
Movies:
Alien, scary or what?
Blade Runner, Rutger Hauer's speech is amazing.
Star Trek VI, finally some decent acting from the crew, except Chekov.
Alien III, attempts to go back to the original premise.
Close Encounters, just amazing.
TV:
Futurama, why did they cancel this?
Red Dwarf, side splittingly funny.
Doctor Who, the latest series is very good, but Tom Baker was better.
Quantum Leap, what a great idea.
Battlestar Galactica, the latest series, the Cylons are so cool.
It's possible to compile a larger list and it took me a little time to pick out the best, in my opinion.

Didn't see the 70's version but Clooneys version was terrible compared to the book I thought.*. Solaris. The Russian original although Clooney's remake isn't bad either.
