Thanks for the information guys! I just had a look at the web page for the Loinao observatory and I should be able to visit on a Saturday so will see if that ties in with my trip. The acquarium sounds worth a visit too so I just have to persuade my friends (who are not into astronomy at all!) to follow my lead

Just to add something similar to the topic, yet somewhet unrelated too, I'm heading to Hamilton in Canada for a few weeks on Saturday (don't worry, I'll still be around to annoy you all), and I'll be hooking up with the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers club while I'm there. I'll let them know just how active astronomy is over in this part of the globe!

Seanie,
I met the members of the Hamilton club a long time ago. Ken Chilton was the President. He had his own astronomy show on Canadian National television back in the 1970s, similar to the BBC Sky at Night. The Hamilton club organised the 3rd International Union of Amateur Astronomers in Hamilton back in 1975. I was there representing Ireland at that time. A few members from the Hamilton club came to Ireland for the next IUAA congress held in Dublin in 1978. Enjoy the trip.
