Terminology was created by jmcc5
Is there a general purpose website that gives the meanings of all astronomical phrases/words eg. whats the difference between something starting with NGC and just M. If there isn't would it be worth thinking about

The slacker astronomy crowd have started a Wiki for Astronomy at www.slackerastronomy.org/slackerpedia/index.php/Main_Page . That's probably the best I can do ATM and contributing to it would seem to be the best option rather than starting another one.

Hi Joanna,

Do a Google search for "astronomical dictionary" and you'll get loads of useful links. There is a proper astro-dictionary in print in pocket book form, but I can't remember who publishes it. You'll probably find it in Easons or Waterstones or the like.

Regard it as learning Chinese Joanna.

You will die laughing at the arcane maths which make a First magnitude star differ from a Second magnitude star.

Quaint 19th century stuff.

("Light Years" versus "Parsecs" are another amusing astronomical eccentricity.)

Having tried both Chinese and astronomy I can assure you that logarithms are not fatal. Neither is Chinese.
