Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Hi all
I was in Smyth's toy store in Tallaght this afternoon when I saw a telescope with the National Geographic logo attached. This is a 3" mirror on an alt-az mount, and boasting a magnification of X525.
I was stunned, not by the ridiculous claims of high magnification, but that a reputable and well respected body like the National Geographic should put their name to such a product.
I rattled off a letter to the society lodging my complaint and it will be interesting to see if any action is taken.

Stay away Paul! It is just a rebadged toystore version that will be sure to disappoint. I know one person who bought one 2 years ago for their child, and was very disappointed. It is not made by NG at all.

Unfortunately, the brand name of NG has, IMHO anyway, become seriously undermined by it's appraent willingness to stick it's name to items of apparent poor quality. This telescope you speak of isn't the only example unfortunately.
