Keith,
Have you tried www.technikdirekt.de/main/en/Page.html from Germany, they are usually the cheapest for Camera gear in the EU.
I have found that you can get equivalent prices from the US when compared to eBay/Hong Kong, but it can be hit and miss on the customs and duty.
www.bhphotovideo.com would be the best place for camera stuff in the US
Regards
Darragh

Hi Keith/Darragh,
As you say Darragh, the US prices are very favourable. I was in B&H in New York recently and the place was absolutely mobbed at 11am on a Sunday morning! Adorama was not as busy but still had a steady trade. Lots of goodies but had to make sure the credit card did not burst into flames! If you knew someone going to the US Keith that is the best option as they could get the lens and save you a lot (I actually bumped into Andy McCrea by accident in Scope City in San Francisco in August -- it's a small world ).

Keith,
If you wanted to go the second hand route, have you checked out some of the Irish Photography websites, like www.photographyireland.net/
Regularly people are selling fairly expensive lenses, you might get the one you want
As a matter of interest, what lens are you looking to buy?

Better that old people should die of talk than to have young people die in war.

A friend of mine bought a good quality digital camera in Singapore a few months back. Came back home, then it broke. Sent it in for repair - Asian region warranty not valid in Europe. So he paid for the repair. At this point the camera has cost hime 20 Euro more than if he bought it in Dublin.
The moral of the story, if there is such, is to check the fine print.
