I got it too and am livil.
I rang up the "club" (i.e. the shop) and left them in no doubt about the level of my displeasure. I also informed them that it was illegal and initially they tried to fobb me off with a "please email David Moore" line but I was quite insistent that they remove me from their list immediately.
Honestly, to see my "membership" money be spent on spamming me with details I did NOT provide them with for that purpose is just not on.
Which organisation over sees this kind of stuff? There must be some watch dog we can lodge a formal complaint with?
The ultimate irony is that I got the voice mail during a confernce discussion ON SPAM!
Anyhow, I feel better having vented over the phone so I'd ask everyone else who recieved the message to do the same so they are in no doubt about just how pissed off we all are!

VERY pissed off A&S Subscriber.
you could also complain to the data protection commissioner at:-
www.dataprivacy.ie/
as he is clearly in violation of the data protection act of 1988 i.e. he is not registered firstly as far as i can see. secondly he is not using it for the purposes intended, i.e. you did not provide it so the could spam you.

As bizare as it sounds I'm actaully at a Networking (the computing kind that is) Conference today and spent an hour in a talk on spam (of the email variety) followed by almost an hour long presentation by the Data Commissioner (who is a lovely man whom I have the height of confidence in) so DM could not have picked a worse moment for his little illegal and stupid stunt!

Believe it or not I was actually talking to the Data Commissioner in person this afternoon and he advised me to make a complaint.

So that's a complaint to 02, then comreg, then the data protection commissioner! Rock on!
Seriously though, I am extremely pissed off about this, like many here, as I didn't provide my phone number to Astronomy Ireland three years ago so that they could ensure that I pay money to receive an advertisement from them. I will be making complaints to all of the above and I would urge anyone else who received it to do so also. If you're annoyed, let him know, otherwise we'll be getting one of these every week telling us to ring premium rate phone lines or subscribe to a shite magazine.*
