An interferometer is a tool for measuring the surface errors on precision optics (telescope mirrors and lenses) to a very high degree

Thanks. Thats what i thought and tried to say/ask in my comment.

The tv show "How it's made" today featured precision optics (camera lens,telescopes etc.). I just caught the last few seconds but they said it takes 6 months to make a single precision optic lens.

That seems kinda a long time to me.

on second thought, do I really want to know my mirrors faults, I might never be able to look at it the same way again. :lol:

Phil thanks for bringing this down to the GSP. It was great to get the chance to play around with it and see it working. It really is amazingly simple. I'll be in touch to get the part numbers for that beam splitter and the lens.
