Cracking job Phil, I would like to have seen that in person. It is one thing I really want to do - make a scope from scratch, mirror grinding and all. Have you got a picture of your set up?

I'll shoot some photos of my setup later, but here's a link to a Wiki describing the Bath Interferometer and how to build one. I started out trying to build the original Bath configuration but my beam-splitter cube is not a 50/50 reflective job and the fringe patterns were almost invisible. I had total success with the right-angle version which is actually pretty easy to align. I still have to work on mopping up stray internal reflections and improve the contrast by trying to get my laser to stop lasing! I'll knock up a webpage describing my efforts and results shortly.
If you want to build your own scope then you would do well to stroll through the links on the StellafaneATM website: stellafane.org/misc/links.html This is an excellent resource!
Phil.
