oh dear god !!! :shock: you were seriously lucky !
I had a similar heart stopper a few months back when a dew shield for the telrad fell into the obsession, but thank god the lid was on it an it bounced off it and landed 10 feet away.

You can't call yourself an amateur astronomer until
you get a black eye from a loose viewfinder!
