I was gonna suggest Hotdog page whiz...but i just checked for it and you have to pay for it now. I got it a couple of years ago when it was free.

You can download a free trial of Adobe Dreamweaver (when the hell did Adobe take over Macromedia?).

Its about the best program on the market for web design.

I just use photoshop for saving images to use online, you can set the compression yourself from none at all to a very high value

For an even simpler solution that doesn't require new software, would it allow you to link pictures that are already uploaded to a separate subdirectory in your webspace? You should be able to upload the images directly using ftp or a similar tool.

Another option would be to save all images into PNG format before you use them. The JPEG compression algorithm is inherently lossy but the corresponding PNG format is not and is also supported by web browsers. I've always save my original JPEG images to PNG, TIFF or DNG as soon as I download them from the camera, before I do any editing. Of course the ultimate answer is to set your camera or graphics software to save the original images in a camera raw format or a non-lossy format such as TIFF, PNG or DNG and not to create JPEG images in the first place but many cameras don't support that.

Down with JPEG!

It's worth persisting with Dreamweaver even though it is a quite a steep learning curve. If you get stuck there are plenty of people here that can help you out
