The rate of bombardment was a lot greater in the early days so I guess we are going through the latter stages of accretion. BUT one big bad ass-teroid could ruin earths current diet for decades..... And lo from the heavens a mighty rock did fall and the earth cried out 'Does by bum look big with this'

Kind of lends some solace as we grow old and put on weight, we now don't have to worry much about it...
"sure the Earth has piled on a couple hundred thousand tonnes this past century, why should I worry about 25 pounds these past few years?!"

So you see as the earth puts on weight it sweats more and this over heating can be seen in global warming.
Wanna solve global warming......................go on a diet.
Or in earth case.....................blast a few zillion billion tons of rock into space.
Just make sure you dump them so far away that they dont come back at us.

Very interesting fact, PJ, I'll probably use that in my latest pub trivia. Also, hello guys again! I've been away a little while, traveling around the globe during spring vacation, back in Scotland now:)

I also thought it was an interesting fact.
Just goes to show how many meteorites strike our planet without us knowing.
I mean the ones we DO find...........must be a fraction of the total that land here.
