Tunguska Event~1908 was created by pj30something
For pretty much ALL of my life i was under the impression that the events that took place in Siberia in 1908 were caused by a meteor.
I was watching a show on tv last week that basically (in a nutshell) concluded that the events of 1908 were caused by a comet exploding 5 Km above the earth. It was stated that the comet theory is NOW the accepted scientific view.
The comet theory is based on high levels of a certain carbon type (that is most commonly found in comets) that were found in soil samples from the area dating back to 1908.
However the same carbon type is also found in meteors.
What's your view/opinion?
It's like the arguement about what killed the dinosaurs.................meteor or comet?..........................

There is also the theory that it was a micro black hole.
I guess because of the remoteness of the location and the fact that
studying this sort of thing is not hugely fashionable it may be some
time before we get an answer.
A lot of the TV doc's I've seen contradict each other on even some
of the major points.

Really? that is not one i have heard or read about.
Possible i'm sure but i dont understand black holes enough to comment. Could also have been a micro galaxy forming?
I read a comment somewhere here tonight that a micro galaxy could form in your room and you wouldnt even know about it.
Ive seen similar things happen on Star Trek.
Even possible?

I sure did. I reckon it is a case of science fact rather then science fiction. I was gonna mention that movie but didnt want to come across as a complete pleb (no more then i already do).
Who is to say that micro-galaxies or micro black holes dont exist.

Only VERY recently has it been realised that a LAKE just offset from the epicentre of Tunguska DID NOT EXIST prior to 1908 .
Obviously caused by one of the exploding fragments.
Read all about it:
