Interesting, Frank, what made you link this? I never saw the image before, it's quite intriguing, though a little out of date. Pretty detailed when you think 7 years ago what they did. Wonder when they'll send another more advanced microwave background explorer...

IFAIK this data has been updated (this year?). Was it COBE? Anyhow, I seem to recall they got the age of the universe to within a few hundred million years.
I've not seem the WMAP data depicted on a sphere before. Nice.

COBE finished up in 1993. It was a successful mision. I remember first hearing the word 'quarks' for tiny, TINY sub-sub-atomic particles associated with the craft!
WMAP is still on the go.

Sorry...
should have read..
Mmmmmm
the universe is composed predominantly of a strange and mysterious type of dark energy (73 percent)
,,,with the remaining 23 percent in a somewhat mysterious type of dark matter.
Am I being a total twat here or can we now just use the word 'dark'
in front of anything we can't prove or understand?
The whole 'Dark' thing to me is an obvious 'Bolt on' theory and
in fact you have guys in high paid jobs trying to make this *crap*
fit....

Hmmmm - Frank, not so sure the people being paid oodles to publish theior theories would agree... But then maybe they are from the dark-side
So, what other words can we put "dark" in front of thereby illustrating some kind of mystery? Dark-politics? Dark-economics?
