Future of the IFAS forum was created by michael_murphy
As you are all aware the IFAS forum has lost functionality in the last few months.
The IFAS committee has discussed this and we have come to the conclusion that we will revamp the website and start from scratch.
It is unlikely that the new website will have a forum as the number of posters here has dwindled in the last few years.
I have no time frame on when this will happen but it is not likely forĀ  a few months.

We should start thinking about another home for our discussions. Facebook is one option but I know not everyone likes it. A Google group is another.

If we wish to organise meetups a WhatsApp group would probably suffice.

Have a think and post your suggestions here.

Michael.

Disappointing to hear.

Quite a lot of material is preserved on the Wayback Machine -

in terms of the forum, quite a lot of headings but not necessarily actual posts.

In terms of the monthly Astro guide, I sent it via email to others who place it on Irish Astronomical Association websites around the country, so if there is a new IFAS Website, I can certainly do the same etc.

Had to use the quick reply option as don't seem to be able to add to the thread.
I reckon removing the forum would be a big loss to the Irish community. Lots of accumulated information there. I would defiantly not prefer to have to use a FB group or have to join another WhatsApp / social media notification eco system. Appreciate that we don't have the Cloudy Nights or SGL user numbers support the activity on these sites. Is the issue with the cost of supporting the forum?
However considering only three folks have replied to this post in 27 hours says a lot though.
Donal
