Hi Donal,
Cost isn't the main issue. At the moment we rely on someone who is no longer active in the astronomical community to host and maintain the forum.
We have decided that we would rather pay for a turnkey site and not have to worry about maintaining the site.
I will see if a Forum can be included in the new site but as there are a small number of users it is not likely the extra costs will be justified.
Michael.

Is it not the case that the forum is the most frequented part of a site like this though?
I know I visit the BAA forum every day, but not the dedicated sections too often.

I had a quick look at the back end and in the last Month 23 users visited the Forum and in the last 6 months 44 did.
We have at most 10 regular posters?

What is the total membership of IFAS Michael? I remember you saying there was a zoom meeting lately, and there was also a mention of the IFAS committee. It seems not too many of those post here.

Hi Finbarr,
At a guess over the 13 clubs I'd say 1000, but it could be higher.
The IFAS committee now uses a WhatsApp group.

As a member of this forum for 16 years now I think it would be a loss. Although I don't post as often as have in the past, I think people do enjoy coming here seeing what people are up and not just IFAS or the clubs . I also think it has been useful for people to arrange observing nights etc. and share knowledge.
