J41 - Raheny Observatory. was created by DaveGrennan
Gents,
I just received word this evening from the IAU minor planet centre that 'Raheny Observatory' has been designated with IAU code J41. This follows a successful submission of minor planet astrometry. This now means that I can submit further data which will help with such things as refining the orbit of minor solar system bodies such as asteroids and comets. Such data has even been requested by the dawn spacecraft team to assist in determining positional astrometry of asteroids which could effect minor perturbations of Ceres. All just a little step in helping increase the data pool available to astronomers. As Bertie himself might say 'A little bit done, a lot more to do'
Naturally I'm delighted with this news. I want to take this opportunity to particularly thank Dave McDonald for all his help and patience in helping me prepare the submission to the IAU MPC. Thanks mate:)

Many congratulations Dave. Look forward to you getting an object named after you though you may have to give Dave McDonald joint credit

Dave - that's really cheered me up after the Ireland match
I am so delighted that you got it. I know the MPC made you sweat. I got a load of circulars over the last two days so that's what they were doing - paperwork.
Its a brilliant achievement and I know the effort you put into it so a massive congratulations from me to you and there'll be a "large one" waiting for you at Birr
By the way, it was a pleasure giving you what little help I did - I know you'd do the same. But you must take all the credit. After all, I was in the same boat as you and other folks pulled me along the way. It was right to give a little back.
So, hats off to you mate and well done for bringing Ireland its 6th Observatory. I'd bet, per capita, we must have one of the largest concentrations of official observatories on the planet.
Now, who's next?
