Well for a start it is well away from the coast as said 20 minutes north of Galway at the gateway to Conemara, home to some of Irelands darkest skies.

If Clear..expect some truly magnificent skies on either the Friday or Saturday night.

Also the site is secure and if you want a further look at this beautiful park see www.brigitsgarden.ie/index.php?page=home

What i would like to ask is how far would people really be prepared to travel to get to one of these wonderfully dark places around Galway?

If its clear then I'll be driving around Galway measuring your claims of 'wonderfully dark places'!

The event will open on at 7.30pm on Friday January 25th at the IT Building room 204 with a free talk by Galway Astronomy Club secretary Ronan Newman entitled “Galileo: A Jovian Odyssey" which will examine robotic exploration of the Outer Solar System especially focusing on the 1990’s NASA Galileo mission to Jupiter. A talk I gave to shannonside last March.

Just confirmed stand by European Southern Observatory with models of VLT etc will also be in attendence.

Hi all,
Could i make a suggestion... Its been made before for the Whirlpool S.P..
NAME TAGS / STICKERS..

I think its a great idea and would break the ice wonderfully..

Just a white sticker with name and perhaps online name below it in brackets.
I am gonna have one and it would be nice if we just took it upon ourselves to do it..

By the way, Ronan and the folks at G.A.C. seem to have a super line up with some great stands etc.. should be really good... hope to meet some of you there.

Hi,
Stickers would be a good idea, I wish we had them for the WSP, but alas the decision is not mine to make.
As for the observing, is it Friday night or Saturday night ??
