New Astronomy Club to launch in September

Hi Guys,

In response to some considerable local demand for a beginner-intermediate level club I will be launching the Larne Astronomy Club in September.

I am currently sorting out a venue - I'd be most interested to hear any advice from those of you who have done this before!

How many members have you got at this moment?

No members at this moment - just a fair few expressions of interest from people I engage with in the local community who find existing institutions either too far away or too high level. Some I know will come, others I hope will come when they get to hear about it.

With IYA2009 coming up there's scope (sic!) for getting plenty more youngsters - and not so young beginners - into the hobby.

It'll certainly be fun for me, though I'm under no illusion there'll be some hard work too!

In terms of a venue, are there any colleges/community halls/etc nearby? Usually alot cheaper than holding it in a hotel.
