Clearish Keith,
I went out with a sextant and measured it at about 10 degrees so it'll be a bit hit and miss - but there's only one way to find out.
Michael.

Won't be a disaster if it was postponed a week. Closest approach of Mars to Saturn in the Sky on July 9-10th I think and on the July 6th there is a nice quartet of the Crescent moon, Mars, Saturn and Regulus low in the west. Is there a clear Western horizon from the observing location?

Not lookin' good tbh but there is a tiny glimmer of hope. Lets meet at Rosslare and take the ferry to Le Harve
Actually on the Visible Freq Sat images there is a stripe of clear tracking up from the south west. Its looks like it will just graze the tip of Wexford tbh but you never know. In a few hours maybe it will track a little bit in a more northerly direction and cross over us.

Hi All,
After a check of the weather I've decided we'll try again tomorrow.

Tantalising!!
8pm Visible Sat image.
Think we might have that clear patch by 10pm+
......or are we looking at 'Mountains creating their own weather' situation where the west wicklow mountains lift the warm moist air up into the colder air above then condensing into clouds.
Any weather experts here?

Have we any spies in Carlow to tell us whether there is a patch of clear coming in our direction....or are they all too busy spending their 20 million euro lotto win

Unfortunately, Despite Keith's optimism we didn't get the clear patch .
Five of us turned out but the sky was clouded over in the west and south so we saw neither Mars, Regulus, Saturn nor Jupiter.
Through gaps we did see Arcturus, Vega, Deneb and lastly Altair.
So having seen the Summer triangle I declared the evening a success and we all went home .
The most annoying thing of all was the lovely sight of Jupiter from my front garden as I unpacked!!
