I used that new car park several times. There is no problem with stray light sources, even from the house on the hillside opposite, and the wall is high enough that passing cars are not an issue. It is pretty quiet, though a couple of other cars pulled the times I was there. Because of the ease of access and the (relatively) good surface, it's definitely worth considering as an alternative to the Commons.
