Hi all,

The Midlands Astronomy Club are proud to announce their upcoming programme for their 18th Star Party, COSMOS, taking place on the weekend of April 9th to 11th. The venue is within the beautiful surroundings of Annaharvey Equestrian Farm 4 miles outside of Tullamore. This year, the speakers include:

Mr. Declan Molloy, Midlands Astronomy Club
"The Fermi Paradox"

Prof. Norman McMillan, Carlow Institute of Technology
"The Irish Astronomical Network of the 19th Century: The Golden Age of Irish Astronomy"

Mr. Peter Household, Cork Astronomy Club
"Is the universe a machine for producing life?"

Dr. Stephen Smartt, Queen's University Belfast
"Supernovae - the Hunt for Exploding Stars"

Mr. Steven Roche, Deise Astronomy Club
"Astrophotography - My Journey"

Dr. Brian O'Halloran, Astrophysics Group, Imperial College London
"The Herschel Space Observatory: The First Results"

Mr. Seanie Morris, Midlands Astronomy Club
"What was it REALLY like on Apollo 11"

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening and pours into all day Saturday and into Sunday finishing by 5:00pm. It includes exhibits, displays, telescopes, Astro Buy & Sell, a Table Quiz for the coveted Cosmos Trophies, a dinner party and outdoor observing sessions.

The Entry Fees for visitors to this years event are as follows:

Standard (Adult, Student)
Friday Night Only - €5.
Saturday Only - €25.
Sunday Only - €25.
Weekend Pass - €40.

Concession (Senior Citizens and Children under 16)
Friday Night Only - €5.
Saturday Only - €20
Sunday Only - €20
Weekend Pass - €35

Discount for Families with Children available, Under 12's go Free when accompanied by an adult.

Some people have asked about selling their astronomy books and gear over the COSMOS weekend. This is not a problem, and is available to all free. Please let MAC know if you require a table to sell items via email to tullamoreastronomy@yahoo.co.uk

Visitors are also encouraged to let us know if they intend to bring along their own exhibits of any astronomy interest groups, endeavours, photography, equipment, etc.

The above has always been an 'open door' policy - the MAC Committee would just like to know in advance to arrange the available space accordingly!

ANNAHARVEY FARM ACCOMMODATION ALERT!

There is one room available which can be either double/twin/single available for Friday AND Saturday nights. There is also one room available for Friday night only.

First-come, first-served by calling Annaharvey on 057 9343544 and booking it yourself.
