An IFAS event would be the ideal solution
and would be a great focal point in the year for all
the clubs in the federation.
A day of talks from one person
from each club would be fun.

Just so as not to freak out anybody on the IFAS
committee that's but a throwaway comment and not
a request.
In fact, it might sound simple but it'd be
a massive undertaking.

After seeing how clubs run events here, if Ifas had a national observing site and a club house that could hold say 40 people (and I am talking a about a tin shed or farm shed-nothing fancy) then it would be easy to organize. Somewhere central, say next to MAC or pick a pristine dark sky site. It's probably beyond a single club but within a national societies means. Great for public nights too or for observers who want to spend a weekend out.
I'm off to the ice in space event next week in Lostock to hopefully catch up with mike salway and the gang. They rent out a scout camp for a few days. There a bunk beds or you can camp and BBQ your meals. It's a great family event even if the weather is poor.

A scout camp, now thats a clever way around several starparty related problems...
Central locations are fine, but you really need somewhere where the sky is very dark.
You're a very very lucky man John !! We're green with envy.
