And the IFAS Astronomer of the Year 2012 is... was created by dmcdona
In a late flurry of voting, the 2012 IFAS Astronomer of the Year was a tight contest. There were seven nominees in total covering a wide range of achievements and commitment to Irish Astronomy. This of itself is an indication of how active and productive Irish Astronomy is and how Astronomy peers are keen to reward their own. So a big thanks to all those who voted.
On a personal note, when I look at the list of nominees, it really is very hard to identify one particular person who has excelled above all others. They are all very much deserving of the award. At one point, there was a three-way tie indicating the closeness of the voting.
However, there can only be one winner...
This year's winner is rewarded for his unstinting service to Galway Astronomy Club and in particular, for organising the annual Galway Astronomy Festival and posting regularly about Aurorae.
The IFAS Astronomer of the Year 2012 is Ronan Newman.
Well done Ronan, this is richly deserved recognition from your peers of your commitment to Irish Astronomy over the years - and your truly wonderful Aurorae images and tips.
Congratulations!
Dave

Well done Ronan.
Well deserved for all the years of work you've put into the Galway Festival and those wonderful Aurora images.
