BREAKING NEWS - IAU Vote was created by dmcdona
The IAU have voted on the definition of a planet.

The definition carried relegates Pluto to a Dwarf Planet.

Note that definition being voted on only applies to the definition of a planet in the Solar System.

A second vote is being taken on a wording choice...

The second vote was regarding the use of the word 'Classical' in front of the word Planet. This was rejected.

A third and fourth vote are imminent regarding the classification of Pluto and Pluto-like objects.

Vote carried - Pluto is a Dwarf Planet and is recognised as the prototype of a new category of Trans-Neptunian Objects.

The name of the new category is to be decide upon by the IAU at a later date. The name Plutonian was rejected.
