Finally a clear sky with decent transparency!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here are some shots of Saturn from last night. I somehow killed my B&W cam so I had to use the NexImage but am still happy with the results - had to use a high gain though.
First up some shots with the Megrez 90 APO, NexImage + 5x PowerMate.
1.3x Mitchell resample on this one
1.8x bicubic resample on this one
Secondly some shots with a Meade 8" SCT + 2x Achro barlow (hence the 2ndary spectrum) + NexImage.
As I expected, the images from the refractor were clearer. Much much nicer visually as well but this requires using crazy mags for that aperture.
Each were a stack of around 600-800 frames from a 5fps RAW avi.
Can't wait to get more tries at this as we're running out of time to capture these closing rings.

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .

Wow trevor! amazing detail on the first image! The other image taken with the sct and the achro barlow really show the difference apochromatic lenses make! Id say an APO barlow maybe a meade series 4000 would make the world of difference! Those pics with sct have fantastic detail but the colour lets it down! the first one is my favourite! The conditions for saturn should be perfect tonight! Happy Imaging!

Hi
Why is there a bluish tint in the sct pictures to the top of saturn. There is a function in registax that can move the different rgbs to align them up right. Did you try this?

I suspect its the barlow causing this,
How clear are the rings visually through the 8 inch, would you say that the image is representitive of the visual image?
Good images, I personally dont like the multiplication factors in registax, I have never found that they enhanced or add to the image.
You really need to get a toucam or whatever the modern day equivilant is, I'd bet it would do a better job then the NexImage.
Keep up the good work.!

Nice banding detail on the disc, and you could drive a large bus through the Cassini divide.
Well done. The Megrez APO looks like a nice piece of kit, I'll bet you get really nice wide field DS shots through it.
