Hi Trev,
you should try running the RGB auto re-align in the levels section of registax to get rid of the red/blue hue in the left image.
I had a go at Venus today also, looked like a bright rainbow through the scope, especially near the ground.
No harm in trying the 2.5 and seeing what happens, if it looks good, then we'd like to see it
