Dave,
I've often said to people in our shop that I don't know how
big 33 and a quarter inches is.
Then I let them stand there for a few min while I go off in a huff
to try and find a tape to convert it out into mm.
Why?
Coz Metric as a unit of Measure and Money has been in this country
since 1972!
If someone asked me how much something was in Pounds, Shillings and
pence now it's the same thing.
People HAD to adapt to the money (in 1972 AND when the Euro came in)
but they just never bothered there arse to learn metric.
I even saw something soooo backwards that it made my head spin!
You know how we now have in new cars the speed in KPH?
and how you can get conversion kits of the OLDER cars?
You can now get conversion kits to convert the speedometer
(speed-O-METER)
of the NEW cars back to MPH!?!?!
How sad is that!
Hey it's a democracy...
Just coz come people want to live in the past thats their problem
I wonder will it ever change?
Actually, on that, wasn't there a few Homer Simpson moments
to do with using different units of measure in the construction of
very expensive spacecraft over the years?

The orbitor truster software was working in newtons (metric) and the ground control software was working in (pounds force), so orbital corrections sent to the hapless craft from ground control sent it crashing into the Martian atmosphere were it burnt up.
Talk about a bad day at the office.
