Dark sky panorama from Tara? was created by cloudsail
Are there any night sky panoramas taken from the Hill of Tara? I wonder if it would be possible to do this before the planned motorway and nearby flyover are dimminish the night sky view.

I think thats a very good idea - especially, in the face of the new development.

It would show what has been lost

I'd be surprised if Anthony Murphy doesnt have something over on www.mythicalireland.com

At least the proposed interchange will be using FCO's. Not that they bothered to actually reply to my letter asking about that. Oh silly me, that would have required them to have actually put some thought into the planning of the motorway...

www.taraskryne.org doent appear to have any images at nighttime.

Cloudsail, I can do the panorama if you get somebody to take the shots. I have a program which can 'stitch' all the photos together, if they are taken on a tripod, say for the same exposure time using the same lens, all you do is rotate the tripod around say 30 degrees at a time and take a shot, move around another 30 degrees, take another shot and so on.

You could then post the shots here in the files section, or e-mail them to me, I could put them together

Let me know what you think 8)

Keith..

Thanks for the suggestion. I have such software. The trick is to get away for an evening under clear skies get a babysitter for the daughter... I just thought I'd bring it up here in case anyone thinks this is a worthwhile idea. I'm not even sure if the site is open to the public after dark, but maybe someone here has an astroarchaeological license to be there ;-)

I didn't find any there, but great site anyway! Uggh, the photo there of the 2003 aurora would've been even better if the Boyne valley bridge were illuminated properly.

I'll let you know if I get a chance to do this, but I'll bet others here can do much better than I can. My best astronomical camera is still a 50mm F1.4 SLR with slide film.
