Cloudsail,
Excellent photo. You could see that being used as a cover for a book or something!
Dwane.

Thanks for the compliments, all. It's weird that my planned photos on tripod mounted film SLR and a pretty good digital camera are worthless but these handheld snapshots with a broken camera turned out O.K. I can't wait to download the photos from Ciara's microcam!
The photo above is shrunk but otherwise unedited. But I noticed if I change the brightness curves, the area around the horizon almost looks like a spectrum, ROYB. What would a rainbow look like if it were illuminated by the point-like source of an almost totally eclipsed Sun?
Since I have several autobracketed wide angle shots taken at almost exactly the same time (but as braketing was only 1/3 stop they look almost identical), would it be useful to combine the photos with gimp or something to reduce the jpeg artifacting and grain? Or does that only work with really grainy low-res webcam photos? The disadvantage is that you would blur the people who moved in the foreground between exposures.

Hey guys! It has been 16 years since I first saw my first Total Solar Eclipse in Bulgaria August 11 1999.
Let us eat some Jaffa Cakes!
I saw your Turkey eclipse in Nigeria. Again a holiday I will never forget!

Was on the Turkey trip - was amazing. Actually got to see the eclipse unlike China in 2009. Looking ahead there is an easy one in 2026 - mainland Spain, Majorca, Ibiza August 12 - 1 week in the sun and see the eclipse
Some of my fav memories of that trip are John Flannery using a colander to project the crescents onto sunbeds etc. Also the Turkish lad who kept on drilling in the apartment block next to the beach during totality.
