Did anybody else see!! was created by SeanOSullivan
Howdy,
My definitions of what is what at this stage is all over the shop, but did anybody else see a very bright Orange meteor around mag -3 (it was far brighter than Mars) around 11:45 last night. I am in Glasnevin in Dublin where the light pollution is so bad sometimes I wonder why I bother at all. I was out looking at Mars when this very bright object came from the East about 40†above the Horizon (Above Mars) and continued to brighten heading in a north westerly direction. As soon as it hit the atmosphere it left a long Orange trial. I don’t know whether it hit the ground or skimmed off the atmosphere because it seemed to disappear after passing Cassiopeia. Either way. WOW  I have never seen anything that bright in the city.

Hi Sean, I was out but didn't see it. Thats what you get when you spend too much time looking at a computer screen and not enough looking up. From your description I'd be fairly sure it burned up completely. A meteor big enough for a part to make it all the way down would be easily as bright as the full Moon likely even brighter.

Hi Dave,
You are right about it burning up, I didn't put that much thought into the whole required size for it to hit the ground aspect, since I nearly got whip lash and fell off my chair trying to keep track of it
Cheers

Sean, I didn't see it but nice catch.
Dave, I know your into imaging but every time I go observing I always take
a long while just to crane my neck back and literally 'stargaze' for a while.
It's always worth it!

I was out last night just before midnight and just caught a momentary glimpse of an orange coloured streak (I was paying more attention to Holmes at the time). It ended just to my North at about 50° above the horizon, so it could have been the same meteor. Pity I didn't see more of it.
