Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

It's great to see so many observers enjoying the doubles of Cancer.
Looking through the French list that Mike provided I see that some of the distances are ridiculous, there is one pair that are separated by 273.5", is it possible to even see them in the same field of view? With some of the others the separation will require a knowledge of their proper PA.
Mike, I just discovered that I got my list from the Eagle Creek Observatory double star list: www.eaglecreekobservatory.org/eco/doubles/

Yes, Paul. In Sissy Hass's book, 67 Cancri is listed as being a double with a separation of 103.6". I split it in a 2 inch 38mm eyepiece which gave me a minuscule 30X. It gave me 2 degrees field of view. Any double star over 2 minutes separation is a joke!
I have quite few more doubles in Cancer to find -maybe I shall wait till next year. Those Burnham's Celestial Handbooks have quite a few more not listed in the Sissy Haas book which may be worth finding.
Aubrey.

It's great to see enthusiastic discussions of double stars on the forum these days. The double star junkies might be interested in a very good collection of links to double star resources on the web in the following Cloudy nights thread:
www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat...3367856/Main/3367856
The Eagle Creek site that you quoted Paul, is included.

Hi Aubrey ,its interesting the way colour in doubles seem to change according
to what scope is used and from person to person. On another forum we had a
disccussion on 54 Leo stf1487 this double seemed to change colour from hour
to hour. If you get a chance have a look at it, I will not say what colour I
thought it was till you get a look at it.

OK Pat, you're on. It won't be tonight as it is very misty and overcast in Dublin.
