Thanks Paul, an interesting and entertaining report (as always). I will compare your observations with my list and check out the ones that I missed.
No cheesy jokes tonight?

What a brilliant night Valerie and I had last night.
One double star you mentioned, Paul, we split at a mere 40X -stf 1173: beautifully split at this power. It was too wide at 112X. Plus we split for the first time also stf 1186 at 112X before it went behind the trees.
This telescope continues to impress us.
One last double is really an optical: Delta Cancri (Asellus Australis). I observed this one simply because it is listed in Sissy Hass's book on Double Stars. A is 3.9 mag and B is 12.2. It is only the second time I have seen a star of this faint magnitude.
We did not have time to have a shot at stf 1187, but we will next time.
Also a real test next time is very tight double stt 186 just a mere 1 arc second apart.
I personally find I must always be patient when star hopping and relax -we all have long lives to go through. When we are patient, love, peace and joy we flow as a result.
Aubrey.

I enjoyed splitting stf 1177 in March 31st last year, Pat. Very nice at 112X.
Last night (Saturday) we split Castor into 3 at 112X. Kappa Geminorum also 112X.
But I then realized it was not as clear as Friday night when I went to split stf 1171. The companion was very dim at 140X and 167X. But became more visible at 225X. However we did enjoy stf 1188 for the first time split at 40X -very dim, but had a charm all its own.
What was a real joy though was stf 1187 -lovely and tight at 112X. And it does mean, I have split every double star in Cancer on page 34 in Sissy Hass's book "Double Stars for small telescopes". I am very happy with that. Now I have to do page 35.

Aubrey, stf 1187 looks like a nice tight double alright, I see the primary
is a very close binary at o.2" did you see any colour in it.
Tonight is cloudy here so no doubles tonight I will have a look at it the
next clear night.

Hi Pat. I would have to agree with Paul (Lunartic). Stf 1187 is just barely yellow in colour. My Valerie thought it so, I thought both components were white. But when she noticed a slight yellow -I agreed with her. They are 3" separation and I split them very nicely at 112X. They are nearly equal in brightness. A is 7.2, B is 8 and I was reasonably impressed by them.
The sky is cloudy in Dublin tonight, I don't know when it will be clear again.
