Did anyone get up before dawn to witness the very rare event of the Triple Shadow Transit on the disc of Jupiter? This hasn't happened for 9 years.
I could see the planet shining brightly outside my bedroom window, so I decided to set up the 6.2" apochromatic refractor in the backyard.
Using my 6.7mm Meade (at 167X), I could see Callisto's shadow near the south pole and Europa's tiny shadow just below the south equatorial belt at 5am.
Clouds kept coming and going, and I really thought this was all I was going to observe.
But finally, at 5.45am, I saw Io's shadow right on the SEB. What a great relief!
Truly historic event -2014 is going to be a bore, right? Simply put, the year of 2013 has been a most thrilling year for me so far! And in early November, Valerie and I are going to witness another Total Solar Eclipse in the Atlantic Ocean.

We might have to wait another 9 years for the next triple shadow transit -hopefully not!
I seem to have been exceptionally blessed - I live in Ranelagh, south Dublin. But a good friend of mine couldn't see it just up the road in Rathfarnham / Dundrum area because of completely overcast skies.

The sky here was totally cloud-covered when I got up to have a look. Bit depressing as I'd set the scope up with the aim of capturing video.

Glad a few people got to see it. :)

What is your rough location, Martinus?

I seem to be the only Joe Blogs to have enjoyed the event.

I'm in north Armagh, Aubrey.

I was hoping that moving away from Belfast would improve my imaging with lower light pollution but I seem to have traded the sodium soup for near permanent cloud cover and the nearby floodlights of a football ground. :D
