ah yes, that makes sense, cant remember seeing the "2" polar caps so prominently like that before,
After looking at Mars for a while, Jupiter looks massive when you go back to it.
Do you have a binoviewer for the refractor ?

No, Dave. I do not have a binoviewer at the moment. I do find it a must to keep both my eyes open while looking through one eyepiece. The simple reason is if I do close my right eye while observing, I develop the most annoying flickering. A sign of maturing in age, I suppose.
By the way, I do use the Mars Profiler on the website www.skyandtelescope.com . It is excellent for figuring out what features can be observed on Mars at any time. It's great fun. That region Hellas is staggeringly huge and bright, and the North Polar Cap is very small.
