The Sun is just too dangerous to mess with. I play it safe and use thousand oaks filters.

I'll never forget the description Mike Murphy gave me of what happens to your eye if you slip up.

"The transparent stuff in the eye is akin to the inside of an egg, its transparent when you put it on a frying pan, but it instantly goes white from the heat, your eye will do the same"

I was so put off solar observing buy this I refused to get any kind of filter for years, up until 2 years ago. :oops:

While not as cheap as bader paper, I've had many hours of viewing with the purpose-made filter I got from ScopeTronix www.scopetronix.com/etx60acc.htm .
