Thanks for the response guys. The power supply is an ac to dc adaptor and it came with a wee bit of sticky tape over the voltage toggle switch which can be set for 3, 6, 9 & 12V. Unfortunately the sticky tape fell off (poor design quality) so when I plugged everything in that night I did not check the setting as I have never changed it. When I did look, after the keypad showed nothing it was on 9V. As far as I remember it was originally set on 12V but as usual when things go wrong you start to question everything.
The scope is still in the shipping box after repair but I intend to put in some D cell batteries and run the scope of this untill I am confident the ac adaptor is OK.
When the scope packed up I had 4 straight nights of clear skies and now that its back..................Murphys Law or what

Hi Kieran and welcome.
I have a lx200 and one thing about the powersupply is that you cannot run the scope safely with a power upply that is too low. you will eventually burn out the motors.
I dont think thats what happened here though. if the voltage is too low the scope draws more current to compensate and you could blow the fuse. get a voltmeter and check the powersupply although I dont think it would have been damaged.

Some of the early lx200s used 12 volts. the lates 90s ones switched to 18 volts because of very frequent motor burn outs in the classics. The gps scopes use 12 volts.
