Lidl Powerpack

OK I checked the voltage outputs and they aren't much different than what you are getting - even under a load.

This is a VERY poor circuit design and if your equipment will not take a wide variation in input voltage then don't use this.

Anyone not happy - take it back to Lidl.

I'll keep mine as I only wanted the 12V output anyway.

Those needing lower voltages might like to consider using a better step-down circut.

For example getting a car transformer used to run cd-players etc. from the cigarette socket of a car. That should step down to 9v for the ETX's more safley.

I think it would be wise to wait until at least one more powerpack has had its voltages tested before going too deeply into using it on the Meade...

Yep; agreed. I think I'll wait to get one that is fully reliable. ATM, it would be a waste of money, as I'm happy using rechargables in it. They work just fine for the (limited  ) use it currently gets.

I've used car batteries for running the scope amoungst other things and I found that you need a big load to make the voltage drop so I'm not surprised that it didnt drop, be careful out there.

I bought one of the LIDL powerpacks too.
I had the voltages checked and it has exactly the same problem.
It's not just one unit.
I'm glad it was brought to our attention on here :)

I think it should still be possible to safely use the Lidl powerpack on the Meade - the "6V" output is close enough to 9 volts. If you are still interested, I could look up the Maplin catalogue and get part numbers for you (I suspect the total cost would be something like 3 euro). I'll see if I get the chance to test it this weekend.
