14" OTAs - weight was created by michaeloconnell
From examining a few websites, the weight of the 14" Celestron SCT OTA seems to be 45lbs. However, from what I can gleam off the net so far, the Meade 14" LX200 and LX200R OTAs are weighing in at 60lbs. Seems a big difference for essentially the same scope.
Anyone have any more precise info by any chance or is the above correct?
Thanks,

Michael,
I can very easily confirm that the figure of 45 lbs for the Celestron 14" SCT is indeed correct (I have one). If it matters, the bulk of the weight is at the back of the SCT due to the large mirror.
Anthony.

Thanks Anthony.
Seems strange that the Meade OTA would weigh 1.5 times.
Are you happy with your scope? Any drawbacks?

Michael --
I don't have the exact figures, but those sound right. The Meade's are known to be quite a bit heavier.

That'll be the weight of the American over enginereed bullsh1t on the Meade. Seriously - they do tend to over engineer most products which isn't always a good thing.
