Oops!

Looks like it is...

I've seen some deepsky shots taken with the ETX125 piggybacked on bigger scopes (such as the LX200) and the results were awsome.

Obviously the LXD75 mount is nowhere near capable of tracking to get images like those above,
but at least it opens the door for deepsky imaging through the ETX.

The next question I guess is has anyone here ever done such?
Or used the ETX in that piggyback fashon?

Yes, that's the ETX125 spotting scope, which comes without the fork mount and drive unit. It has a camera tripod adaptor to which you can attach a dovetail, or you can use a combination of the the camera tripod point and a tube ring with a longer dovetail for better stability as shown in the picture. The smaller ETX105 and ETX90 spotting scopes can also be mounted on the LXD75 but be careful with the counterweight, you may need to replace it with a lighter one.

What I don't know is whether you can dismount the fork-mounted ETX scopes to use them in this way.

As it turns out, you can take the tube off the forks, the real question is
"is it worth it?"
You'd need to find out if the LXD tracking/goto is better then the original ETX fork system, and I'd bet it isnt. As for piggybacking it on another scope, this is very possible and has been done.

My LXD55 tracks better than the ETX70. (yes apples with magos probably...)

I've a 4" mak as the reqular scope on my LXD55 and its easy to do. I wouldn't rely too much on the camera adapter though. Its meant to be used on a camera tripod where the weight of the scope is almosty always going through it. On an eq mount the positions the scope ends up in can weaken (break/unscrew) the tripod mount. Thats easily solved though with the rings and dovetail as shown in the picture.

I'd say its more a case of it bieng a GE mount as opposed to a Alt/Az.

I've seen long exposure shots taken using this mount and a guidescope with PEC.
The results were amazing for the actual set up.

Do you know is it easy to dismount & remount the ETX OTA from
the forks?
Can this lead to problems later?
