To a certain extent we have that already with GOTO control. Some of the newer scopes don't come with any optical finder at all now.
From what I hear, one of the idea's that is under study are image enhancing devices inside the telescope focuser/eyepiece which increase the brightness of the image when you look into the eyepiece. One company in the US has sold these before, but the technology was very expensive. If you get the likes of Meade or Celestron involved, I'm sure the price would drop significantly with mass production.

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, part of the legal settlement between Celestron and Meade from last year was that Meade were entitled to produce & sell any items developed by Celestron without needing to pay any royalties.
