wide angle view eyepieces

im looking to get a wide angle eyepiece for my 6" sct, but dont want to ( dont have!!) 500 euro plus for a televue! what would be the recommended eyepiece in the range of perahaps 100 euro? i seem to navigate toward viewing in the range of 12 - 22 mm eyepieces, never really got great views with my 6mm televue plossl so im also wondering if i should try getting a higher mag ( shorter focal length) wide angle piece as it might provide better views than my plossl?

HI there! I have to say having seen them before and having seen through them in my 8" SCT, the Hyperion eyepieces are fantastic! Is it a 2" diagonal you use? The Hyperions are adaptable for 2" and 1.25" diagonals so it doubles as two sizes! say a 17mm will double as a different size when used as 1.25" adapter! Also can be tripled with an extender!

If 125€ is too expensive for some of them(21mm,13mm8mm etc) they can be bought new on ebay for about 100€!

If 21mm isnt big enough for ya there are always the moonfish eyepieces! The 30mm ultawide eyepiece beat some of the naglers in the sky at night magazine! it won the gruop test!

so are wide angle eyepieces usually better at longer focal lengths? ( above 15mm)?

Well it depends what you want from them! Do you want a WA eyepiece for viewing nebulae and galwaxies then a WA long focal length eyepiece like the moonfish is ideal! if you think the andromeda galaxy, from a dark site would take up two of these eyepiece view!

I have the moonfish 30mm 80 deg 2", and have to say the field of view is huge!!!

A bit soft at the edges at F5, but you really dont notice it that much as it is like looking out a window.... i.e. you will find youself looking up, down, left and right to take in the view...

At a fraction of the cost of a Nagler... I would consider it good value for money...

The 3.5mm - 17mm models all have upper sections of roughly 22mm focal length, which is almost the same focal length as the 21mm and therefore offers little advantage if you also have that. In fact Baader plays down this feature. Only the upper section of the 21mm provides a significant advantage because it's focal length is 32.2mm and it's a decent Erfle-like eyepiece in it's own right.

All of them will fit into either 1.25" or 2" focusers or diagonals, (provided that in a 2" diagonal there's enough height between the rim and the mirror) without the bottom section with the 1.25" barrel being removed or using a 1.25" to 2" adaptor. However in some optical trains it is necessary to use a 1.25" adaptor with a 2" focuser or diagonal to reach focus.

I have all six and I agree with your overall assessment, they are versatile and very good. They are the best eyepiece set I've owned, and I'm now seriously considering the 8-24mm Hyperion zoom as a travel eyepiece (which has to fit in a backpack with a scope, two cameras and several lenses).
