Vixen Great Polaris was created by lunartic_old
Hi all

I have an opportunity to pick up the Vixen Great Polaris DX equatorial head with Sky Scan 2000 computer system for a good price from a highly reputable dealer. On this I plan to mount my 8" SCT to create a GoTo system.

I have read a lot of favourable reports on the net about this mount, does anyone have any first hand experience?

Thanks.

Paul

Paul,

I don't have one myself, but I have talked to many people who do and they do get rave reviews. Remember the Vixen GP is the mount on which all the latest clones (CG5) are based. It really is the original of the species. If the prices is right and you plan to mount an 8" SCT I would have no hesitation in recommending you to go for it. It will be good for visual and astrophotography.

Go above an 11" SCT or mount too many accessories, heavy guide scopes etc it might struggle. I can tell you it will handle an 8" SCT, Guidescope, and resonably sized camera equipment with no bother.

Hi all

Does anyone know the best place to buy tube rings and a mounting plate?

Paul you will need the mounting plate at the end of this page

www.opticalvision.co.uk/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=68

That should screw directly to your 8" SCT.

See "SKY-WATCHER EQUATORIAL MOUNTING PLATES" they use the Vixen/CG5 fit. You wont need rings to mount your SCT. If you want to mount a guidscope, I highly recommend losmandy plates and rings as a very solid option.

Again, thanks Dave.

I would be a bit nervous about drilling holes in my scope tube though.
