Help! I need advice on voltage asap! was created by Frank Ryan
heya lads.
Im in a spot of bother here in Portugal.
I pretty much brought what I could pack when I headed of on holls but
I left the Car battery I use to power my scope behind because of the weight and now
for some reason the small batteries are not working on my etx125.
I do have an AC adpater (the charger for the small ones) which says:
SEC. : 13.5V - mA
I know the etx runs on 12 volts.
If I used such an adapter would the 1.5 extra volts short somthing.
the sketch is also showing this
(or close to it)
(-)----C----(+)
Which im pretty sure is saying the tip of the adapter is positive
and Im sure this is correct for the etx power point also.
Any help is appreciated!
(he skies here are  bty! )

Frank --
A standard car battery produces over 13V when fully charged (and most automotive charging systems charge at about 13.8V).
So I'm sure 13.5V would be fine.

Frank,
In the interests of helping you quickly but can't be held responsible if it all goes wrong...
If it were me, I'd give it a go. Not much of an increase in voltage to my limited knowledge of electrics. If you had a multimeter, you'd know for sure what the true voltage was. However, the scope must have some level of tolerence on voltages.
Best of luck with it and enjoy your hols.

thanks lads.
I checked the Weasner site and it looks like anything from
9 to 13.5 is fine.
the etxs draw just around 500ma also so it looks like it should be grand.
from the posts on the etx site its a common problem
as there is a switch that can go faulty when you change from
dc to internal supply.
my only worry now is that the voltage here is in some way constant.
the etx is a sensitive little bugger to voltage drop and can go
slewing off in a tantrum of its own accord.
fingers xd!
If not Im just gonna hit the bar,
seeing as I brough 3 bags of astronomical exuipment and
left my clothes bag behind in the jeep.

Stall the ball, what do you mean by "(the charger for the small ones) ", do you mean to plug the battery charger into the scope, I hope I am mis-reading you !
